　　There are a large number of patients with hypertension in our country, thus being a large market for hypotensive agents. Presently, calcium antagonists and ACEIs still play a leading role in the market; however, according to foreign circumstances, sartans have a high potential for future use generally.
　　Since entering the market, sartan antihypertensive agents have showed a trend of increasing sales persistently. According to Datamonitor Company, it is expected that, by 2005, Losartan Potassium will achieve a sale of up to US $ 1.68 billion, and all sartans will achieve a sale of US $ 3.0 billion. At the beginning of 21 century, ARB will play a leading role in the market of antihypertensive agents. Telmisartan has a long half-life, a true antyhypertensive agent dosing once per day, with a continuous and smooth pressure-decreasing effect, and thus, is the best one of sartans presently. Therefore, development of telmisartan has a vast potential for future market.
